POV Consultants believe it is essential to take time to reflect and think. This time could be used for personal growth and for developing new ideas and perspectives. It's important for leaders to recognize the value of taking a step back and creating space for themselves to think and recharge. This can lead to more creative and innovative solutions to problems and a better understanding of the situations with which they are dealing.
One way to create this space is to schedule time for reflection, either daily or weekly. This can be as simple as setting aside 30 minutes each day to journal, meditate, or go for a walk. It can also involve taking regular breaks throughout the day to disconnect from technology and just “be present in the moment.”
Another way to cultivate this ability is to embrace a growth mindset which means being open to new ideas and ways of thinking. This requires being willing to challenge your own beliefs and assumptions and to seek out different perspectives and opinions. Engaging in continuous learning and seeking out new experiences can also broaden your horizons and give you new insights into the world.
Ultimately, finding time to reflect and think is crucial for personal and professional growth. It's important for leaders to prioritize this in their busy schedules. By taking the time to recharge and think, leaders can approach their work with a fresh perspective, and, be better equipped to tackle challenges in new and innovative ways.
POV consultants help leaders practice the “Keeping Space” model. Our practice in this area is based on the Draper model which focuses on 4 overarching dimensions:
A leader who hasn’t created such space for themself will be operating in a way that is primarily about just responding only to what is happening around them. According to Draper, “…the leader will be working hard but, in a way, shaped by externalities, not by themselves.”
Leaders who consistently create space, however, take decisive control over their working lives. And while time and energy do have an impact on this, Draper argues “…this is primarily a state of mind.”
